Just one month ago, on January 5, 2022, the governor of Louisiana posthumously pardoned Homer Plessy, the defendant in the Plessy v. Ferguson Supreme Court case. Plessy 's “separate but equal” led to  Jim Crow laws until the Supreme Court partially overturned Plessy with its 1954 ruling in Brown v. Board of Education.
