Yale University professor of computer science Dragomir R. Radev
founded the North American Computational Linguistics Open Competition while teaching at the University of Michigan and ran in conjunction with faculty members at the University of Michigan and
Carnegie-Mellon University. Winners of its annual competition compete in the International Linguistics Olympiad (IOL) .
