Rhyming words and phonemic awareness

Phonological rules capture the regularities that occur when we look at predictable pronunciation patterns. For example, Americans like to pronounce the intervocalic /t/ as a /D/ , as in "water."

Phonemic awareness occurs when we realize which sounds belong in  our language or dialect. For example, although "texts" is an English word, we recognize that "xstset" is not a possible word.
